Summer is officially here, so I’m looking at the various season previews that appeared earlier this week. This feels good, because I am so far behind with watching the Spring shows (excepting Lucky Star) that a fresh start seems really appealing right now! As far as posting goes this summer, I don’t know that I’m really up to doing those episode-by-episode posts, but as I’ve mentioned in a comment elsewhere, its pretty tough coming up with content otherwise that I’m satisfied with. Certainly I want to do more manga reviews. We’ll just have to see what else I come up with! Anyway, as I said, this is a good place to consider what might be worth looking at and/or writing about this summer. These are just the ones that seem like they might interest me:
- Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai: I was pretty obsessed with this show last year, so I think if I blog regularly about any series, it’ll be this one. I have a friend who’s really into it too, so maybe we can get some kind of interesting dialog going about it. Anyway, I’m looking forward to all the killer loli, batsu-game, nipah, traps (not the male kind!) and gore that Studio DEEN can generate!
- Baccano!: As a history major and American Studies person, I’m interested in how America and the American past are presented abroad, even if it’s a total fantasy America, as this no doubt will be. I’ll at least want to check out some of this. Will it be the groan-inducing Anime equivalent to Doctor Who’s “Daleks in Manhattan“?
- Tetsuko no Tabi: I’d better read up before watching this! Maybe this will be a standout smash hit, but I doubt it. It could be a quirky cult hit though–a break from the usual run of shounen/shoujo/moe/whatever that constitutes most series.
- Doujin Work: Unlike some others, I liked Comic Party, but I still hope this is different/better than Comic Party. As a 4-koma adaptation, I hope it’s more like Lucky Star than Comic Party, though
- School Days: This has the potential to match Higurashi’s intensity if they use the bad endings! Maybe I’ll wait and see what others have to say about this one first.
- Moetan: This looks cute like Lucky Star, so I want to watch it. I can learn Engrish too!
The ones above look the most interesting to me so far, but I might also check out that swimming one and Zero no Tsukaima 2. Now back to my backlog….

I hate the bad ending for school days, thats cause I got it in my first run of the game, first time an eroge left me psychologically scarred.
I’m also looking forward to Moetan, hopefully its wun dissapoint.
Moetan could be enjoyable, I’m curious about School Days, and Baccano looks like it might do a good job of filling the roll of the see-not-everything-I-watch-is-full-of-moe-girls anime. Still, I anticipate that this summer is going to be all about Higurashi. Can’t wait!
alafista & Matt, let’s be confident and assume that Moetan will be win win win!!
Oohh… School Days and Higurashi in one season. Which one will deliver more gore? :P
