For those who don’t know about ConnectiCon, its a convention that’s happens each summer in Hartford, CT. It’s billed as a multi-genre convention (sci-fi and fantasy), but the main focus is on anime, gaming and web comics. I’ll have a bunch of cosplay pictures later, but right now I’ll just mention some of the things I did yesterday.

Typical line to get in (I’m glad I preregistered at Anime Next,
because the pre-reg line was much shorter!)

I explored the Dealers Room, which was smaller than at Anime Next, but had some of my favorite places. I noticed that Yaoi seems to be quite popular at conventions these days! As for myself, I stuck to getting some moe trading figures!

The Connecticut Convention Center is a much more luxurious environment than the Meadowlands. They had a lot more panels and gaming and screenings going on as well. There are these fancy video screens outside the rooms to tell you what’s going on.

I walked around the Artists Colony and saw PatrickD of animecons.com.

I also met up with some friends. We had dinner at a Japanese yakitori and sake bar. One of them is Matt, who has a blog called Moetic Justice. He hasen’t updated it recently, but when he does it’s worth checking out! (He’s the one with the Eva shirt).
So yeah, I did take a bunch of cosplay pictures, which I’ll put up later. But here’s a picture of some trading figures figures I got: two Moetans and Mion, Rika and Satoko from Higurashi!)

ConnectiCon was fun– well organized and low key, at least from what I saw. We wound up with the same trading figures, except I got a Rena instead of a Rika (too bad; not much opportunity for trading!). The Moetan figures are apparently some kind of limited edition thing from an anime festival in Hong Kong; Ink-chan in the maid outfit represents Hong Kong, for reasons that are obscure to me…
The CTCon was so much fun. It was close to where I live and the convention center was new and nice. Even though the schedule wasn’t as great as last year, I was managed to find a few fun things to do at the con. The free shuttle that ran around downtown Hartford was a great new service to the City. My friends and I were able to go outside to have some great food. They had some good venders at the dealers room and I got some pretty cool stuff, mostly figures. I’m pretty sure that I will be back again next year.
