When I went to the Anime Next panel on Anime in NY I heard that Kinokuniya in New York was moving to a bigger store off Bryant Park, but no one was sure when it would open. Publishers Weekly says it’s going to open this fall and there will be people from Viz there for the Grand Opening and an exhibition of art by Osamu Tezuka.
This is good news. I always like to stop in this store when I’m in NY. I can see why they need a bigger place–years ago their manga was in a small room upstairs, but more recently its been growing and they’ve expanded their English translations and anime too. They also have a great selection of books in English covering Japanese culture. I hope they’ll be increasing their amount of anime-related CDs as well.

I’m looking forward to it. Maybe a trip down there and Mitsuwa in early October…….
Damn, I need a Kinokuniya in Manila. As I said way earlier, we’re an untapped market, goddammit.
