Mysophobia, or Watching Moyashimon can Cause a Panic Attack

A number of bloggers out there have been touting the new series Moyashimon. For most of us, particularly the scientifically-inclined, this delightful and quirky show will no doubt turn out to be a great source of pleasure. But there are some individuals for whom this series could become a source of misery beyond imagining. Beware, oh you anime bloggers who are spreading love for this seemingly harmless confection. Be sure of who you are encouraging to watch this series. For some people, this series could become a source of horror a hundred times more disturbing than the most graphic scene in Higurashi or School Days. I’m talking about Mysophobia, also known as Bacteriophobia, a fear of dirt, contamination and, yes, germs. And if anyone watching the opening below (which I, like a number of others, am taking the risk of linking) feels the symptoms of an anxiety attack coming on, then “Abunai!” DO NOT WATCH THIS SERIES! You have been warned!

If you’re afraid of bacteria after watching this show then you have some serious issues. :P

I’m extremely germ-phobic, but I thought it was absolutely adorable. Maybe watching Moyashimon would work as a desensitizing therapy?
