This question occurred to me the other day. Now it may just be semantics, but I really do wonder what all the anime bloggers out there think. It’s really a subtle question of mindset, of identity, of of how you see yourself. Like “Is Anime Deep?”, it’s a loose kind of question that probably means different things to different people. Another way to put it is, would you describe yourself as a fan/otaku first, or as a blogger first. I know that some will even question the validity of the question itself, but please try not to worry about that. Try to just take it for what it is and vote whatever your first instinct is. And I hope I do get some votes on this, because I really am curious about it, for whatever reason! And please comment if you want to clarify your ideas.
And with that, I’ll just briefly give my take on the matter. I voted that I’m an anime fan who happens to have a blog. Blogging, and living a life online in general, is just not second-nature to me yet. I have toyed with other non-anime blogs (and I have a really different one, but its all still a bit of an experiment. I was into anime long before blogs came along. But I imagine there must be people out there who were already totally absorbed into a kind of blogging mentality, got into anime, and so naturally segued into blogging anime.
To make a comparison here, I always felt that a lot of people over at AnimeonDVD, for instance, could be described as digital and hi-fi fans who like anime, as opposed to anime fans totally focused on getting anime in any form. Maybe that example doesn’t really relate much to my poll, lol, but it is kind of a similar idea. Anyway, please let me know what you think! Onegai!…… :)

Interesting question. I guess the difference is made clear immediately when you instinctively don’t blog because you “don’t feel like it”. Part of why I blog is because I enjoy it, and if I feel like typing out my thoughts is a chore, then I just go do something else (like watch more anime).
For me it’s pretty simple. No blogger would go about such insanity in so lame and cowardly of a manner to be a real blogger. I blog because it helps me think and it helps me organize my thoughts, and it forces me to read what other people think. And admittedly enough of bloggers out there say enough interesting stuff for me to come back to it.
And by the way, Momotato please come back. The world needs you!
Interesting question, one I had never bothered to think about before personally. The difference is mainly do you enjoy blogging that much that you write about anything (with anime being one of your main interests) or do you love anime that much that you want to tell the world about it? Phrasing it that way isn’t really a question of semantics, but an interesting take on things nonetheless.
I had a hard time voting because I feel like I’m neither…I only switched to using WordPress because I got tired of writing my own CMS (and I dislike Joomla, among others). But prior to the switch, I was more concerned with the technicalities than the content, so I suppose blogger who likes anime is closer.
I’ve blogged before doing an anime blog, but I hadn’t been blogging as seriously as I have now. So I consider myself in the “Anime Fan who blogs” boat.
“No blogger would go about such insanity in so lame and cowardly of a manner to be a real blogger. ”
Using anime as a crutch when blogging instead of thinking up stuff on your own?
Wholeheartedly I’m a blogger who likes anime. The way I make the distinction is by thinking about the rationale behind starting my site — that being me wanting to start a new blog and deciding anime was the best topic because of my existing interest and its variety. I applied my anime fandom to the desire to blog, rather than having a desire to blog as a result of my anime fandom.
I reckon I could apply the method of blogging I use with HvO to any kind of blog, because most of what I say there is opinion and the
I’m a blogger who likes anime who likes seeing his adsense revenue of 10 bucks a month increase ever so much by the next month and then the month after that and so on.
In all seriousness, I still don’t get your main question. Are you implying …
A. Anime blogger who does it to get his opinion out (ala look at me) blogger and looks at his # of comments?
or
B. Anime blogger writing for the sake of writing about anime, if this writer gets readers, hey icing in the cake.
That’s pretty much the gist of what I got from the question when I started to think about it.
