Thanks to a link on the amrc-l Mailing List, I found this early (1934) anti-American propaganda anime. It features an early example of a panty shot! Could this be the earliest in anime history I wonder? What a context for that! History would turn out much differently from what the makers of this film had intended though!

Wow, that really could be where it all began…speaking of teh oldz cartoons, I was thinking about how anime was inspired by US cartoons in the 40s and 50s…and came to the conclusion that Betty Boop invented moe! :-/

I find it ironic that it’s from an anti-American propaganda film, yet the characters all look like badly made copies of American characters.
