Some of you may be aware of the many jokes that circulate about the person known as Owen S. or Saturnine being a dictator. The time for jokes has finished. The worst that has been imagined about him has now been revealed to be true. His dictatorial and openly rude manner (well known to those unhappy enough to have encountered him on irc) has only been exacerbated by the so-called leadership role he has taken of the experimental anime blog group-posting club known as the “ABC.” This organization has long been little more than a vehicle for Owen/Saturnine’s massive ego. I endured this out of respect for some of the other distinguished anime bloggers invited to take part, but after recent events, I am inevitably forced to withdraw from the ABC in protest of disgraceful actions undertaken by Owen in his capacity as “leader.”
Those of you who are not privy to the internal dramas that have shaken the ABC in recent months deserve to be fully informed of what has been happening. Those who have also wondered why group posts from the ABC have not appeared for such a long time will discover the reasons in what I am about to say. I think a quick perusal of the ABC’s group comments on MyAnimeList.com should reveal part of this story. But the true extent of Owen’s ingrained propensity to induce outrage has mostly been restricted to arenas open only to members of the ABC. I know that many of you have read with interest the recent posts by CJ Blackwing, entitled “Owen

This is why I didn’t really participate/register in the anime blog awards…I was afraid it would turn into another e-pen0r fest
:P
Hmm. I hadn’t heard of the ABC before (I guess the anime blogging community is yet even deeper than I thought). However, I had one question - and maybe this is digging a little bit deeper than I should be going - but why would an anime blogger feel like quitting blogging or actually quit based on the behavior of someone who runs a Bulletin Board.
I’m not saying that it can’t happen. I guess if you’re invested in the group, and it’s leader keeps berating you, I guess you can lose motivation, but I was just curious about that aspect.
That one letter to CJ Blackwing was pretty bad, though. Sure, I like CLANNAD and True Tears (though I stopped watching the latter once it got licensed), but to be like “I know better than you what anime you like” (or even worse “As a girl, these are the anime series you WILL like”) is just….ugh.
I can see a suggestion that they try it out because they think they’ll like it, but the email sounds more like a dictate, like he has any power/right to tell another person what they can or cannot watch or write about. Jeez.
… Wow. I didn’t think anyone else would see things my way on this.
Although I don’t appreciate you calling my experience ‘mild.’ Owen was a person I wanted to trust, and being emotionally stabbed in the face by him is not my idea of ‘mild.’
Care to start a separate society of caring, morally decent bloggers with me? I’d hate for it to turn into a doramafest like the ABC though.
And I wonder who will quit next… Owen, you’d better speak up and save yourself.
I apologize for this.
Owen’s dictatorial and abusive nature can almost be directly attributed to me. I am so very, very sorry. He tried too hard to follow in my footsteps, seeking to attain power as I had and seeking to attain trolling skills as I had. Unfortunately for those who gave him power, he sought (and attained) both at the same time.
I was harmless because my time of power came and went before I became a troll.
Owen has overstepped all bounds. He is not the destructor of community that Jason Miao tried to be because he is trying to create one, after a fashion, but I’d still say he’s a pretty big threat to the aniblogosphere.
Once again, I apologize. Especially if none of this made any sense to anyone.
I’m not going to present excuses or deny any facts on Owen’s behalf, but I do have to say that I think this is going a bit too far. Threat to anime blogosphere? A monster? Give me a damn break. I think you have good reasons to be pissed and present complaints, but using this kind of vocabulary serves no other purpose than make you look like an obvious drama-queen.
No shit, NovaJinx.
This is WHY Owen’s being an ass
ABC is just a liquor store to me ^^
NET DORAMA!
Normally , I try to avoid commenting on thses kinds of flaming posts ( DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS!), but I got to say one thing: You have pissed my fancy organs, and not even Owen can do that (believe me, he tried).
You guys have been fueling each other with your drama and becoming worse than the “monster” you proclaim to abhor.
You can be right, Owen isn’t easy to deal with and has a bit of a temper, but that’s the way he is. You could have solved the issues without making it a public defamation of Owen and only adds up to the ill intentions you guys have.
Now behave and act like grown-ups, instead of insulted prima-donnas (in your case, you just seem to be going with the flow…)
Also, afraid of revealing the names of Tj Han, Impz and Kabitzin?
Personal attacks on bloggers really damages the community (as small as it is right now), so it’s probably best that you try and work this thing out before you deter readers from appreciating all the efforts that anime bloggers have done up to this point.
As someone on the outside looking in on this situation, having several rather well-respected bloggers either quit this group - or even going so far as to speak out about it like this - paints a picture of a serious problem with the group.
Either the people leaving are being “overly sensitive” or something, or the leadership is a major issue. Given the email sent to CJ Blackwing, I tend to believe the latter.
And if that is the issue, I don’t think you can try to get around it by saying “handle this personally” or “personal attacks are bad.” If something needs to be dealt with, then it needs to be dealt with, and sometimes airing dirty laundry is the only viable way to deal with something in a way that will come to a final result. Besides, I’d rather know whether a group is being led by an unsavory character than to be asked to join said group without that knowledge.
Sure, I’ve only seen a collection of circumstantial evidence, but, given that I’ve seen quite a few people say things along these lines recently, and no one who has mounted a defense beyond “stop saying mean things!,” it hardly looks good for the ABC.
Moar Drama ~ RAWR
I don’t see the point why we should stop talking about it just because it doesn’t look good for the ABC. If its broken, it should be fixed.
This is why I didn
Owen needs to be revealed for what he truly is. I believe everyone is trying to protect and help the biggest victim here, CJ, rather than flaming Owen directly.
No, I think Hinano has the right idea. The Anime Blog Awards are quickly turning into one big, angry circle jerk. I think I’ll kindly stay out of it, especially if it’s got such a prize as part of the group.
I dunno my opinion on this whole ABC issue is who the fuck cares. I didn’t even know the ABC existed until like a week ago. If they are having issues then let them sort it out among themselves? Why did this have to spill into the rest of the blogosphere through my Antenna RSS feed?
Really, why is blogging have so much dorama for you people. It’s a place to express opinion right? So if find a personality (as evident through posts/comments) is unacceptable to others then too bad. It’s a big Internet just ignore them. If you can’t stand someone then fine. Deal with it but don’t go spamming your petty shitfest bawwwfest all over the blogosphere.
(Just another opinion in this world of different ideas)
It’s more than just Owen. I just …
I don’t know….
The idea of an angry circle jerk scares me! I also love the comment about ABC being a spirits store, lol.
LOL
I shall now announce that I feel like a moron. Thank you.
