
I know that there’s a lot of manga and anime out there, but reading about this talk in Japan by a doctoral candidate on “Embracing the Embarrassing: Japanese Governmental Policies towards the Anime Industry” an image popped into my head of a bunch of 60-year old Japanese government officials with droning voices trying to explain to a group of international representatives that yaoi is great Japanese cultural export and using examples of Kanokon-style Shota-rape and fanservice as representative of the great Japanese culture. If that ever happened they would really be embracing the embarrassing!
