The long anticipated return of the dangos has come and what do we get? A few seconds in the ED? What’s up with that??? Oh well, we can only hope for more dango screen time. Also, with my finely honed dango-detecting skillz, I have the power to spot them in scenes where the average person might have missed them. So here are some thoughts on the episode!

How could they be so mean to the dangos??? After Tomoyo’s ball went over the fence, they clearly used dangos as replacements. Must have been stale dangos though, as they would otherwise have been too soft.
This episode was all about a baseball game. The jokes were fairly common and ordinary ones, but it was good to see all the characters again. Looking at some other blogs, I note that Josh calls the episode “pointless” and Hinano compares it (as usual) unfavorably with the game. I tend to agree with the idea that having fun with the characters and their humor is part of Clannad’s charm and that it’s good to build up to the drama a little slowly at first. Actually, this is not pointless, but essential. So much of these sentimental anime, and anime in general, are about capturing a fun moment in time before things change. You can’t have nostalgia without creating the base mood of fun and games!

Sunohara obviously still hopes to attract the attention of his beloved Tomoya. Note how he seductively stretches his pale white shota-legs for Tomoya’s benefit. Give up now, Sunohara, he likes Nagisa better!

Foolish Sunohara! He should be satisfied now though, because he’s in the position all tsundere-loving otaku men must crave: bowing for mercy in front of the glorious Kyou-sama!

This episode also features many examples of what is described as catching or throwing “like a girl.” Are delicate and unathletic girls what they call moe? How can they compare to the genki power of the likes of Tomoyo and Kyou?

NAGISA! STOP!!!! Don’t you realize that’s one of your beloved dangos you’re throwing!!!!

No matter how I look at it, the dango needs only three strokes. :)
Hehe, unathletic Nagisa is moe~
It was an all-around fun episode though. Clannad does comedy/slice of life quite well, so I can’t complain about the lack of drama.
You could have least squished the dango ….
I only comment on this blog when there are dangos.
I also agree you have to have these fun moments even if they are not adding to the main plot. You can appreciate the impact of such sadness without experiencing joy and vice versa. :) Personally I enjoyed Yusuke antics the most in this episode.
