Watching Railgun, I knew I should watch Index too. I saw some criticism of the series on blogs concerning its pacing, but I didn’t have a problem with that. All the technical science and magic talk added to the story and I was not bored with it, mainly because I was interested in finding out what was going on. Another criticism I saw was that Index herself was somewhat set aside for much of the series. There were certainly many characters and the way it was all organized was as a series of separate arcs which were not really related to each other directly, but each was different and entertaining in its own way. Railgun can be thought of as yet another one of these individual arcs, although again without Index (like the Accelerator/Misaka wa Misaka wa 2 episode arc). A Certain Magical Index has lots of interesting ideas and while I can understand how this adaptation of lengthy light novel exposition might not appeal to anime viewers, there’s always enough action and intense character emotions to balance that. So I found it interesting to watch, even if the individual story arcs are disjointed from each other.
So, Did I really have to force myself to watch this? No, because I was really excited to see more of Biri Biri Mikoto!

Meh, both Index & Railgun are rather crappy. The characters are rather good, but the authors just HAD to ruin everything with sloppily done pretense of a story. It would be better off as a slice of life in a paranormal school or something. Instead we got this muddy thing.
Please stop trying to rip off JPMeyer’s machinations.
Anyways, more Biribiri action on the latter parts of the Index novel, which you’ll really crave to get animated.
