Three series I’ve been following ended with ep. 12 last week. What are some of my thoughts on these final episodes? I am so glad you asked, because that is just what I’m going to write about here…
Kampfer: Yes, I agree about the disappointing crappyness of the last episode (or last two?) Both were a big let down after the earlier build up of this show. I wonder if the novels are any better. But whatever, the finale in ep. 11 was barely adequate, as it gave no explanation of the Moderators or Sakuras connection to them or how she was able to control Natsuru. As for the last episode, I don’t mind a fun Christmas episode, but this one made no sense at all. It was like a total dream/fantasy sequence with characters doing things they wouldn’t do in a normal episode. It’s possible to have a fun and unusual episode with it being totally stupid and nonsensical like this one!
Nyan Koi: This series ended up much better than Kampfer. There was a climax for the season but with a promise of another season. I’m surprised that Kousaka did not work harder to help various cats. I know his allergy would make it difficult for him, but if he helped out at a veterinarian’s office or animal shelter, he would have many opportunities to help many cats at once. The last episode reminded me of the classic Japanese novel, I am a Cat, by Meiji-era novelist Natsume Soseki. Kousaka could write such a book from personal experience! Or perhaps he could transcribe what Nyamsas tells him!
The Sacred Blacksmith: This series was very good, although having just 12 episodes allowed it only to set up the basic story. Cecily was quite forthright in ep. 11, but should she have confronted Luke in front of everyone? But maybe that was the only way he’d listen. I was happy that Lisa was able to remain happy in the end. But the last episode was too rushed: it even took me a few moments to realize it was Cecily’s city that was under attack! It all happened so quickly >_< Oh well, we can only hope for another season.
